Canterbury boys basketball coach Brian Fruscio is recovering at a hospital in Long Island, N.Y., after suffering an “unimaginable medical crisis.”
According to a GoFundMe donation page, Fruscio recently suffered a series of five strokes and faces a long recovery.
“His doctors anticipate that he will require extensive rehabilitation and continued medical care as he works to regain his strength and independence,” the page says.
A native of New York, Fruscio played college basketball at Ithaca College before embarking on his coaching career, which included a successful 15-year run at Albany Academy. In 2022, he was hired to be the head coach at Canterbury, where he’s led the Saints as one of the best teams in NEPSAC Class B. They have a 61-21 record over the last three seasons and reached the Class B Large championship game last March.
